I'm glad that no one I know was hurt. I know the chances were small but rationality is sidelined when bombs go off. Unfortunately, all too often rationality stays sidelined after the echoes of explosions fade away, and we're left with the work of carrying on.

I hope, without much conviction, that the UK government responds in a measured and rational way to the London bombings. It's a credit to the planning and individuals involved that the emergency response was so effective. Using the threat of terrorist violence to bolster increased surveillance of the public, reduced mobility and infringement of certain rights runs counter to the ideals that piss off these terrorists in the first place.
