[Role-playing] More Dungeon Squad
I said recently that our gaming group's current run with Dungeon Squad would probably wrap up this session, as the bold adventurers push on into the depths of the dwarven mine to recover the stolen wheels from their caravan. Alas no, it was not so. Last night's session was almost entirely taken up with one big fight between our heroes and the goblin chief and his elite(-ish) guard.
To be fair the session did take until nearly 21.30 to get started, with late arrivals and much technical faffery as we fiddle with the Skype webcam thing again to include Marie (calling from Lancaster). An extra wrinkle this time was the addition of digital projector, borrowed from work by one of the players, and used to display Marie at larger than life size on the wall of our living room. The effect was unusual, but not distracting and I'd certainly consider using it myself for the GM in a game of Paranoia or any 1984 inspired game. GM as Big Brother is a bit old hat, perhaps.
Once the technical difficulties sorted out I foolishly suggested the characters 'level up' and handed out a couple of die raises for each PC. This took more time to figure out, but eventually we were ready to go.
The group of adventurers advanced down the old dwarven mine and encoutered a new gang of goblins, hidden behind another barricade. This hastily prepared defence blocked the passageway, but the players quickly decided to send the big warrior-woman, P'ing, in an ore cart, hurtling along the old tracks and into the barricade. That made short work of the goblins' defences and the group pushed their way into the goblin chief's chamber. Eight goblin warriors and a mangy-looking wolf were arrayed against them. Behind his warriors, the gobin chief sat smugly on one of the stolen wheels, balanced on an upturned barrel as makeshift throne.
The melee commenced and the adventurers were alarmed to see the chief begin chanting aloud, reading from a tattered looking scroll. Leaky,
sammywol's thief explorer, snuck forward while trying to remain unseen. The wolf was too keen-eyed (keen-nosed?) for that and ran forward with one of the goblins to block the creeping Leaky's advance. P'ing the warrior woman and B'ert the mage-warrior got stuck in straight away to the other goblin warriors, as Dan the wizard tried hard to get a spell together to zap 'em with lightning.
Much scuffling, walloping and cursing followed, mostly from Dan, who had terrible luck in getting his magic to work. B'ert also had a tough time of it, as he was struck by the stinking spray spell launched at him by the chief. Eventually the group battered down most of the goblin guards, and laid into the chief himself. P'ing was particularly interested in the chief's fancy-looking dwarven helmet, that glowed impressively. As the chief realised his plight and the last of his guards was skewered, he made a run for it, pushing past P'ing and sprinting for the exit. P'ing kept her wits about her and grabbed the helmet off his head as he passed. The others all shouted "No, kill him!" but P'ing was happy with her spoils. It was left to B'ert and Dan to work a magic combo to fire at the rapidly receeding goblin chief. B'ert magically enhanced Dan's spellcasting and Dan rolled impressively to shoot a killing blast of lightning after the chief as he ran. The chief fried as he fled, and dropped, smoking, to the floor of the passageway.
Looting followed.
So the group only cleared out a single room this week, but took out the goblin chief and the rest of his minions. The question now is: where are the remaining two wheels? And what is that eerie wind that blows along the branch of the corridor they haven't explored yet? And how did P'ing, the 1/16th Orc warrior woman ever get that dwarven helm to fit on her head?

Solution b) P'ing has a pin(g) head.
Solution c) it just sat on top of her orcish topknot
