Earlier today the consultant came round and told me I'd be going home today.
Unfortunately my calcium levels are still a bit low and I've had more
tingling sensations in my hands and arms. The supplement they gave my
earlier doesn't seem to have taken effect yet but a couple of quick tests
show that the problem is not too pronounced. I suspect that my body is just
taking longer to adjust to the new situation than I'd like but there's a
possibility that I'm not producing enough PTH now the enlarged gland is
removed, or that there's some other problem metabolising calcium.
I suspect I'm going to be stuck here another night though, unless my calcium
levels stabilise soon. Shite.

For both you and your Myles-sick family.
I also hope they didn't give away your hospital room* when they prematurely announced your departure to bed management.
::B::
* I once came up with a cunning plan for dealing with the bed management problem in Canadian hospitals which may be applicable to Irish ones; simply hire more porters! All you need is enough extra porters to push patients and their hospital stretchers to and fro hospital corridors non-stop round the clock and you don't need more hospital rooms. Morning Rounds with the MDs would be exactly that, having porters roll 'round their patients slowly enough they can receive a quickie exam (get their IV re-filled and their foley emptied) and then onto the next patient! For meals you can have cooks and their carts pull alongside to swap trays. And instead of showers each am, they can re-jig some variant of a car-wash with the porters supplied rain-coats and goggles.
