Rowan Tree and Red Thread

I often complained about the proximity of my birthday to Christmas (it's January 2nd) but to be fair to family and friends as a child I never was made to feel that my birthday was just an add-on to Christmas. In my twenties I grumbled because everyone was too hung-over or overdosed on calories to make for much of a party, so I used to throw New Year's Eve parties instead. For the last several years, however, I've usually been in Dublin at my mother's place and had friends round for brownies and a glass of wine. Most civilised, I think.

This year, unfortunately, I won't be able to do that, but at the moment the thought of brownies is not as enticing as usual after far too much rich food.
