From [livejournal.com profile] angry_geologist by way of [livejournal.com profile] pompe, the Batshit List. I'm sure it's going to prove very useful in saving some us time and energy we'd otherwise waste arguing with the batshit insane.

Nice. I have often needed such guidelines in the past to avoid not being able to identify the insane early enough... 8)

Glad to have been able to point you to another weapon in the arsenal of rationality.

Did you read the link to the guy who converted because secularists are nuts?

OMG! Clearly he has serious trouble with logic.

Although it was amusing when I misread one of the lines as "A librarian who grounds his moral philosophy in contract law, and says man is free except where he undertakes an obligation voluntarily"

The correct word was libertarian

Yeah I was reading that thread yesterday. It's rather a pity, as I quite liked John C. Wright's first couple of Golden Ecumene novels (The Golden Age and The Phoenix Exultant). He is bonkers, however.

Never read his stuff - tell me, the other writer being talked about was Ayn Rand. Now why? Her ideas may be odd but they don't seem to be so odd as to have everyone claim her supporters are nutters? (I really only know about what I saw on wikipedia and that I have seen the books in shops)

I've never read any Rand. All I know is that's she's regarded as something of a libertarian saint on the Internet and many people whose opinions I value think of her as a loon. More generally, I think her ideas, suitable mangled perhaps, seem to inspire the batshit insane to run to their computers and post.

The movie with Gary Cooper, The Fountainhead, taken from one of her books, isn't much cop, fwiw.
