I'm testing http://ping.fm as a one-stop service for updating multiple social networking sites and blogs.

Funny coincidence, so am I! This link http://dan-lane.livejournal.com/613605.html unlocks the SMS gateway, which is functionality I find indispensible -- sadly it's a UK-based number but you can't have everything.

Must give that a try. I would tend to use an IM rather than a text, though. Does this gateway forward SMS to all networks?

It's post-only -- incoming, not outgoing -- so it lets you post by SMS to ping, which then sends it on to your other services. So the gateway on its own doesn't forward the SMS to all networks, but it does get it into the system.

I figured this out by actually reading the post you linked to.

I think I'd be happy enough with the IM/email gateway as a Blackberry user, but I guess the SMS gateway would useful to a lot of people.
