This weekend my handy USB pendrive decided to lose its formatting. I use the pendrive to move things (mostly music) back and forth from work, to keep e-books to hand and to store my diaries and whatever I'm writing on. Any music lost is replaceable, as is the reading matter. The diaries aren't.
I have a back up from about a fortnight ago so I haven't lost too much. In fact since starting on LJ I've written far less in my own journal. Still, I was annoyed to lose a couple of weeks, including my impressions of the recent trip to Dublin, and so on.
The lesson (one I've had to learn before so you'd think I'd have it down pat by now): Always do your backups.
