Tonight just as my daughter was finishing her shower the power went in the house. All electricity out, I dried Rowan off in the dark as [livejournal.com profile] sammywol examined the trip switches. All remained closed and we rang the ESB.

So here we wait - in the dark - for an electrician to appear. I hope it's not something that will require either digging up the pavement or digging into our savings. I'm already wincing at the pensions levy today.

We lost a chunk of ours last week - but a nice electrician restored it - agreeing, however, with me that the house does need rewiring! Hope yours is easily sorted.

Power back now! The lovely ESB man gave us a new fuse, as we apparently had been surviving on a 50 amp instead of a 63 amp for the last 8 years.

I was impressed too. My heart sank when he said 'the bad news is it's on your side', indicating that the problem was inside the house and not in the ESB meter or line coming into the house, but he said he had a spare fuse if I wanted to put it in. He wasn't going to touch it himself, presumably because of regs and insurance requirements.
