Especially as you can be more specific as it's certainly Osteichthyes if not Sarcopterygii.

My rationale (after the fact or otherwise...) would be that I was trying to be monophyletic (which rules out the first alternative), and to include all the fish (nixing the second).
Mind you, doesn't help with everything that has "fish" in the common name...

My understanding is that the _Osteichthyes_ are paraphyletic with respect to the tetrapods, as "traditionally" defined. I think that's fixable by either including those (in the spirit of "birds are dinosaurs/reptiles" and "human are apes"). Or perhaps by excluding the _Sarcopterygii_, though I think that just leaves the _Actinopterygii_, so it'd be somewhat redundant.
