The first of Westlake's 'Dortmunder' novels, which revolves about the several heists of an emerald, each failing to secure the gem and each accompanied by great dialogue and witty reversals. Fun comic heist/caper story with beautiful light touches and swift character sketches.

This novel was accompanied by many pauses to read aloud a section to sammywol as I had to explain the laughter. I only hope I didn't spoil the book for her in the process.
