  5. Odysseus - Homer's wanderer

  6. Miles Vorkosigan - McMaster Bujold's hyperactive troubleshooter

  7. Griselda - independently minded women from Oliver Dickinson's Pavis stories

  8. Hu San-niang - as played by Sanae Tsuchida in The Water Margin TV show

  9. Philip Marlowe - Chandler's knight in a raincoat, particularly as played by Humphrey Bogart in The Big Sleep (1946)

  10. Mal Reynolds - Captain of the Serenity in Whedon's Firefly

Interesting top ten. Not sure I would wring a consistent top ten out of my puddled little brain right now but maybe after I have finished the new Harry Potter.

Wouldn't have guessed 2. You have been quiet about an affection for the hummy one. I thought your child's heart belonged to small pig. Would have to reread to remember 4. Also number 8 is a small surprise. I mean I knew you liked her but not top ten kind of like. I will always think of her as being played by Miriam Margoles though, as it is the voice I think of as much as the face.

Once more - does David Bowie count as a ficitonal character?
