Something funny is going on with our internet connection at home. Specifically it's not the connection but connecting to LJ that's the problem. We can't, you see. (I'm writing this from work.) We can't ping www.livejournal.com and a tracert dies at the last hop before www.livejournal.com on some machine at pnap.net (border9.ge1-1-bbnet1.sef.pnap.net [63.251.160.19] to be precise.)

I have a feeling that whatever IP address we're given via NAT by our ISP is being blocked. Bah.

Do you get the same IP address every time, or is it the next one in rotation (with DHCP expiring between connections?). G reckons you should phone your ISP with what you've learned already. Or log into work from home to do it? :-)

I've been in touch with the ISP and let them know. A tracert from their machines reaches www.livejournal.com okay, so I'm wondering if we're being blocked on the specific IP address we currently have from their DHCP server. I don't know how long their lease is, but I might be able to proxy through one of the proxy servers in the college and see if that makes a difference.

I can log into LJ and browse it fine from my desktop machine in work, using either of our accounts so it's not LJ getting back at me for posting one too many silly memes.

Forgot to answer your specific question: I don't know, but I'll check on the DSL router when I get home.

It does sound like it's the IP address you've got that is the problem. Note the number and consider telling the ISP that it's on someone's black list and you don't want it again?

Got home and rebooted the DSL router. It drew down a new IP address from the ISP's DHCP server and we were able to reach LJ again. I think that the old IP address must have been on a blacklist at LJ, probably because it had been lifted by some b*stard spammer to spoof headers or some such.

ah! So that's good, except that you don't have a record of the offending IP address?

Ah, but I do. I recorded the original IP address before rebooting the router, and I passed it on to our ISP. Newton knows if they'll do anything with it, however.
