My daughter Rowan has got mouth ulcers. I don't know if she bit her tongue and it has subsequently become ulcerated, or if she had ulcers and started biting her swollen tongue, but for the last three days she's been plagued with it. She's having great difficulty eating. Anything she tries to eat eventually leads to her biting her tongue again, to howls and much upset. Her tongue is now pretty sore and swollen, and her gums seem in poor shape too. I took her to the doctor this morning and got a steroid cream that might help. Otherwise it's plenty of fluids, ice lollies and soft food.

Poor little mite.

Just a note of warning - when I was about 2, I ate a whole tube of the delicious mouth ulcer gel, Bongela :-)

Little chance of that. Rowan was distinctly unimpressed with the taste of Bongela.

I'm always struck feeling simultaneously helpless and intensely frustrated when I see my own little girl unhappy, unconfortable and in pain when she is sick.

And, as a parent, there is often little one can do to make things better, except to be there for them.

I hope Rowan will be feeling better very soon with the remedies she is now on. Mouth ulcers and canker sores can be very unpleasant at any age.

I think she's on the mend. Certainly this morning's breakfast seemed to disappear swiftly and efficiently without a single "ow" from her.

Thanks for the get well wishes.
