Taken from here, a snapshot of the musical tastes of the blogosphere.

The instructions:

1. Open up the music player on your computer (if you have one -- the music player, I mean. Clearly you have a computer, because otherwise you couldn't read this).

2. Set it to play your entire music collection.

3. Hit the "shuffle" command.

4. Tell us the title of the next ten songs that show up (with their musicians), no matter how embarrassing.

The result:

'Honestly' - Annie Lennox
'Lovely Head' - Goldfrapp
'Ghost' - Dubstar
'Flux and Reflux' - Praxis
'String Quartet No.8 in C minor' - Shostakovich
'Machines Fall Apart' - Tree Wave
'Meetl' - Autechre
'I Was Born Yesterday' - The Divine Comedy
'Thirty Times Three' - The Plague Monkeys
'Nu Horizons' - Ladytron

Well, that's informative. And less embarrassing than I thought. How did you do?

Hi Lorraine!

Thanks for dropping by. I love that Wim Mertens piece. Didn't Mark and Anne use it on their wedding album? I have to admit that my random ten wasn't entirely random. Most of my music collection is on an external hard drive at home. That list came from the tracks on my machine at work. That said, there's over 3200 tracks on my work machine, so it's a fairly large and semi-representative sample.

Hi Myles

Ken here, just dropping by, thought I'd share my list

Only about 1500 tracks to choose from which are heavily weighted to certain bands. Anyway here goes

1, (Crazy for you) but not that crazy - The Magnetic Fields
2, King Henry V's conquest of France - Richard Thompson
3, This years love - David Gray
4, War - Outkast
5, Everyday is like Sunday - Morrisey
6, It ain't me babe - Bob Dylan
7, Last Call - Elliot Smith
8, Stutter - Elastica
9, Not Before Time - Gallon Drunk
10, Santus from the Mass in C minor - Mozart

No Belle and Sebastian or Kate Bush somewhat surprisingly. The Outkast is new and it isn't familiar. The rest are pretty representative.

BTW hi Lorraine. Have a blast in Venuzuela next month.

Ken

Yay! Hi Ken, nice list. How's Belgium?

Aside: I wonder if the anonymous contributors actually come back to check? Without some sort of notification, I rarely did, and that was one of the reasons I finally started an LJ account.
