On Sunday last we had a couple of friends round for a boardgame night. As is usual with such get togethers we only managed to play the one game but I'm glad to say we tried a new one this time. The game we played was Sid Sackson's I'm the Boss, a clever game of negotiating deals and sharing out the spoils. The trick is that it's next to impossible to work a deal without involving one or more of the other players, and knowing what to offer as inticements to okay the deal provides the hard decisions. There are also action cards that allow players to monkey with a deal in progress. We found these flew in the closing deals of the game but didn't feel like they completely derailed the process, so I guess they're balanced.

In all it was a fun game to play, and one I was surprised worked so well with the four of us, as negotiation isn't always our strong point. My positive review of the game was helped by being the winner too. I don't remember the spread precisely, but it was something like 49, 48, 46, 45. A close and rewarding game.

I think it was 49, 48, 48, 45 - it's Alex's score I am not too sure of. I enjoyed it too. It isn't often that we get to try a new game and finish as quickly as that one did and not feel 'well that was a bit crap'. I'd certainly try it again.
