Firstly, thanks to everyone for their sympathy and good wishes. Secondly, the stone passed, and I'm back home now, with a big stack of analgesics to handle any after effects. The pain subsided sometime in the midmorning.
I don't like pain, particularly not pain that takes away my ability to talk, makes me vomit, and consumes my every ounce of attention. I can dimly imagine how someone suffering from chronic pain feels and it's terrifying.

My condolences on your recent health troubles. I sympathize greatly.

Sorry to hear about the renal calculi; as I recall, having various organs and tubes of the body 'stretched' when they aren't supposed to be (or even when they are, in the case of child-birth) can be the most wrenching and terrible of discomfort.
I'm still impressed that you blogged from the emergency department on a hospital stretcher...

Admittedly I only posted during the lulls in the pain. I'm not that hard.

Glad to hear you're home and good luck with finding an effective painkiller...

I've got an appointment with a urologist early in August and I hope I'll see then if there's anything else I can do to minimise the chances of this happening again. I thought I'd been pretty good about cutting down on risk factors in my diet and drinking lots of water each day but maybe I could be doing more.
