Counting Sheep

Sometimes when Rowan is going to sleep, she asks to hold my hand and to count sheep together. I take her hand in mine, and I count.

Me: One.

Rowan: Baa!

Me: Two.

Rowan: Baa!

Me: Three.

Rowan: Baa.

Me: Four.

Rowan: Baa.

Me: Five.

Rowan: baa.

Me: Six.

Rowan: baa.

Me: Seven.

Rowan: (more quietly) baa.

Me: Eight.

Rowan: (getting faint) baa.

Me: Nine.

Rowan: (really faint) baa.

Me: Ten.

Rowan: (normal volume again) That's enough, dada.

[Turns over and snuggles into blanket.]

Sometimes I get to twenty, but it's worth it.
