though that's not as much fun as it sounds.

I got a 'D' from
- Dead Can Dance - one of my favourite bands and performers of my favourite gig ever. Just one night in the Olympia Theatre in Dublin but Lisa Gerrard channelled something incredible that night, and I don't think a single person in the audience could have remained unmoved. A magical night.
- digits - as in fingers. I love hands, my own and other people's, and the clever, sexy, inventive things Homo Sapiens can do with them.
- Dungeons & Dragons - not my favourite role-playing game ever, but definitely one with a special place in my heart as an early gateway into a hobby that's stayed with me since 1982.
- dice - I have many of these little randomisers and they, like Dungeons & Dragons form a crucial part of my personal history. I still have some of the crumbling, hand-inked dice set I got with my first copy of Basic Dungeons & Dragons. Like many atheists, I'm an animist in times of stress, and dice have often faced my wrath and praise as they selflessly generate their randomness for my entertainment.
- drums - I love percussions and tapping my foot or clicking my fingers along to the beat. Sometimes you really music you can feel.
- DD/DS - my darling daughter and darling son (Rowan and Oscar for those following at home) have changed my life in ways I would never suspected, and for the most part it's been fun. I love them both in an entirely unsurprising soppy fashion.
- Dada - I am a beautiful monster.
- dancing - As anyone who remembers my college gig-going days will tell you, I'm a fairly typical overweight bourgeois white-guy dancer. I try not to think about that and just dance.
- data - While not as fascinated by numbers and their relationships as say,
nhw, I do love drawing meaning out of data. I am, by training and instinct I think, an observational scientist, and the heart of science is observation. I love hard data. - devilment - Sure, all we have are our fellows to annoy, observe, gossip about, desire, repel, play with, hate and love. It doesn't do to be a boring monkey.
