I got to see Iron Man last night. Thanks to the brave
irishkate who volunteered babysitting services and let
sammywol and I escape the kids and house for a few hours.
The film was great fun and very much as expected from the reports. Downey Jr. is a natural Tony Stark, Paltrow's Potts has steel enough for her own suit (hi
mizkit!), and the pacing was pretty much spot on for a superhero origin story. It looks like it has legs as a series of movies too, so long as Downey Jr. keeps it together long enough to make more movies.

Can't say the Hulk is one of my preferred Marvel characters, so I'm less keen to see the film than I was with Iron Man.

I had three thoughts on Downey in the role:
* His entire life's been "method" prep for this.
* Isn't someone in Hollywood, backing not just a high-budget movie, but what's being flagged as a "franchise" of same, being a little, um, *brave* with this decision?
* Why did he give what must have been at most a 90s interview to the BBC in which he used the word "mythology" about three time? Lucas-grade "Campbellwash" warning, methinks.

Downey is precisely right and of course a risk for just that reason. I hope they get the rest of the series in the can before he's rehab-bound again.
