What? You've never eaten haggis?

I think your list is longer than mine would be - I counted 40 that I knew I'd eaten, although it might be more as I didn't recognise some of them!

Yes, I had to follow the links to discover that, for example, dulche de leche was just the main ingredient in banoffi pie.

I haven't eaten haggis. Someday my prince will come.

I'm surprised too: I'd have thought it'd have been on your Worldcon menu, at least, as part of the tokenly-Scottish part of the Insular Breakfast. (The potato scone is another slightly less generic item, though apparently Irish farls are much the same thing.) OTOH, as Ronni Ancona's take-off of Lorraine Kelly would have it, "if you've just joined us, you've missed nothing!"

I don't think currywurst or absinthe are particularly worth writing home about either, and I don't think I've managed any of your other blanks. Not 100% sure about carp.

Sandy Petersen reputedly force-feeds raw peppers in the habanero/Scotch Bonnet end of the market to his guests, but so far I've escaped.

Sandy Petersen really is the god of Horror GMs isn't he?

On that subject one of the A&E writers had the following in this month's zine.

"Sandy Petersen, in the podcast of the UK Games Expo run of his scenario “That Hideous Strength,” bluntly contradicted players, and they acceded without complaint. Players would announce they were leaving a room, and Sandy would say, “Okay, now you’re deeper inside.” [“What!” I said, listening. “That’s not what happened! What’s going on?”] When the hum¬vees were sabotaged, the group realized the medic and another PC were the only ones who were alone with the vehicles for any time. “But we didn’t do it!” those players said. “The gook on their hands shows they’ve clearly been in the engines,” said Sandy. “That’s blood!” said the medic. “I’ve been giving first aid after the battle!” (True.) “Nope,” deadpans Sandy. “That’s definitely motor oil.” No further protests. I was blown away!"

Actually I'm wrong; I've had venison since then; Roger at work brought some deer heart for me to try. It was delicious!
